Dr. Frederick Patterson

Dr. Frederick Patterson founded the School of Veterinary Medicine at Tuskegee Institute in 1944. The same year, he established the United Negro College Fund which continues today as a critical source of annual funds for Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Dr. Patterson’s work in education led to President Ronald Reagan honoring him with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1987.
